The 17th national client consulting competition for Justice P. Govinda Memorial Ever Rolling Trophy was held under the auspicious of the Kerala law academy moot court society from the 10th to 12th of November 2016. The competition was inaugurated by Honourable Minister of PWD Shri G. Sudhakaran on 10th November, 2016 at the college campus Peroorkada. Shri A. Badharudeen (Enquiry Commissioner & Special Judge, Vigilance) and Shri Mohan Das (Chairman, Permanent Lok Adalat, Thiruvananthapuram) were also present in the function.
The competition which was conducted over two days witnessed 22 teams from all across the country battle it out for the top position. The final was between GLC Ernakulam and Gujarat National Law University. GNLU represented by Naman Lohiya and Sanchit Suri emerged winners of the competition with Gajendra Singh Rajpurohit and Akhil George of GLC Ernakulam settling for the runners up position. The competition tested the first step of advocacy skills which is to interact with the clients and comprehend their problems and also to advice them to the proper legal course of action.
“The profession of law is one of the oldest professions in the world. Great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi were lawyers. It is contemplated to be a profession for common people to render justice. It’s a profession and not a trait. One of the most important elements in this profession is character. It is the only profession mentioned in the Constitution of India.” said Shri Ramakumar K, Senior Advocate of the High Court of Kerala while addressing the Valedictory Function. Senior Advocates of the Kerala High Court Shri K. Jayakumar and Shri Bechu Kurian were also present in the function.
