XIII K.K. Luthra Memorial Moot Court Competition 2017 was held from 13th January to 15th January, 2017 at Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi. The case related to the law of sedition and the propriety of death penalty as a punishment for the offence.
All the 60 teams were registered on the first day i.e on the 13th January, 2017 before the orientation programme started. Hon’ble Justice Amitava Roy was the Chief guest on the orientation day. The competition actually started on the 14th when different teams from various institutions argued from the side allotted to them in accordance with the draw of lots done on the day before. The teams were judged by various District Court Judges and advocates. The teams to reach the finals were from George Washington University, USA and Rajiv Gandhi National Law University.
The final round was held on 15th January 2017 at the Indian Habitat Centre, Delhi. It was judged by Justice Ajay Kumar Tripathi of Patna High Court, Justice RK Gauba and Justice V. Kameshwar Rao of Delhi High Court. George Washington University, USA won the competition.
The event ended with Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri lauding the participants and encouraging all the law students to become litigant lawyers and not just always prefer to be corporate lawyers as there a need for young people in the profession. It was followed by a vote of thanks by the organiser Mr. Sidharth Luthra.
