Loquitur’17 is the 1st Edition of NMIMS, School of Law’s National Asian Parliamentary Debate. Loquitur provided a chance to participants to mix the wit and sarcasm with logical reasoning and substantial constructive. This Loquitur’17 national was organized by NMIMS-School of Law. Mr. Rishabh Iyer, as Convenor along with the Co-Conveners Ms. Aakanksha Shanghavi & Ms. Moha Paranjpe, under the constant guidance and support of Prof. Ravi Saxena, Faculty-Coordinator and & Dr. Rhishikesh Dave, Dean-NMIMS-School of Law, Student Council President Ms. Drishti Barar and the Vice President Ms.Teesta Sen. Loquitur’17 was organised on March 10-12, 2017 at NMIMS’s School of Law.
The response to the registration was overwhelming. The tournament witnessed pan-India participation. Participants were provided a convenient and pleasant accommodation. The event began at March 10, 2017, where the Core Adjudicators Mr. Vignesh Hariharan and Mr. Vanshaj Jain briefed the participants about the format along with the do’s and don’ts’ about the tournament which was followed by a Demo Debate. The 1st day of the Debate was fun and full of energy with every team giving their best performances.
Day Two saw the end of preliminary rounds and the announcements of the top 6 teams who qualified to the pre semis. The teams that qualified to the pre-semis were, Old Man Logan, Pep’A, Gormint, ILS (b), Jindals (b) & DBIT. The teams went ahead and competed in pre-semi, semis and the finals on 12th March.
The teams that competed in the finals were Old Man Logan, a cross team from MISB, Mumbai, BOCCONI Mumbai & NMIMS, School of Commerce and, Pep’A, a cross team from IIT Bombay & DJ Sanghavi. The motion for the finals “THW destroy the fountain of youth” made both the audience and the teams excited.
After a debate between exceptional teams of equal calibre, with a 4-1 split decision, Old Man Logan emerged as the winner. The best speaker for the event was Mr. Abhishek Navatia, and best adjudicator was Mr. Vedika Walia. With the guests, and president of the student council giving their speeches, the convener announced the tournament closed.
