As reported by media, the Israel parliament has passed a bill which characterizes the country principally as a Jewish State by undermining the Arab minority.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the passage of this legislation as a ‘historic moment’ for the nation. He also stated that ‘Israel is the nation-state of the Jewish people, and respects the rights of all its citizens’.
The essence of this law is that it defines Israel first and foremost as a Jewish State.
Israel has no constitution but with the passage of time, it has successfully passed a series of ‘Basic Laws’ which have constitutional status. The current legislation which has been passed by Parliament is the 14th basic law.
