About the University

Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) is a premier national law university established under the “Gujarat National Law University Act, 2003” in the State of Gujarat, India. About the Centre

Established in 2012, the Centre for Corporate and Competition Law is an initiative of the Gujarat National Law University to promote multidimensional research and development in the field of corporate and competition law. The Centre aims to contribute in this field through various activities, intellectual deliberations, practical output, legal solutions and creative awareness, thereby filling the gaps and easing the hurdles. The Centre is headed by Dr Udayakumara Ramakrishna, Assistant Professor of Law, Ms Shreya Talukdar and 13 student members. Eminent scholars such as Dr V Umakanth, from the National University of Singapore, is a part of its Advisory Board. The Centre has organized many prominent events such as the ‘half-day symposium on competition advocacy’ and the ‘advanced training programme on corporate insolvency law’.

About the Certificate Course

The Course will provide participants with an overview of the principles, definitions and objectives of the law through a detailed understanding of common anti-competitive practices, its potential causes and consequences of the discriminatory behaviour. An in-depth understanding of the enforcement mechanism within the regime will be undertaken in the backdrop of the Commission’s latest landmark rulings and the recent formal approval of the Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market. The Course aims to provide the participants with an understanding of the intricate and detailed aspects of the EU legal regime from the evolution of the law to its impact on the functioning of the industries. It aims to critically analyse the functioning of the institutions and jurisdictions of the EU, to examine EU competition law policies and explore new tendencies in the latest European law reforms as well as to garner an array of knowledge of European law sources.

The Course will focus on the general introductory principles of EU competition law, the basic economic concepts and theories functional within the purview of the market structure, before moving on to the application of competition law in the EU with regard to articles 101 and 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU (TFEU). This will be followed by a discussion on the anti-competitive practices in the EU, the public and private aspects with regard to the enforcement of the law and its international aspects.  More specifically, the topics covered in the course includes but is not restricted to:
