Del HC | GNCTD to file status report on implementation of directives on disposal of COVID-19 patients dead bodies

Delhi High Court

Delhi High Court: A Division Bench of D.N. Patel, CJ and Prateek Jalan, J., asked GNCTD to file a status report with regard to the implementation of guidelines issued for disposal of COVID-19 patients dead bodies.

Petition is initiated by the High Court on its own motion with regard to slow disposal of the dead bodies by the respondent authorities, especially in the context of the present Coronavirus pandemic.

Respondents counsel submitted that steps have been initiated by respondent 1 as well as other respondents.

It is one thing to issue the directions/guidelines and it is absolutely a different thing to ensure the execution of those directions.

Bench stated that it would not be burdening the respondents by adding more directions as it had earlier on 30th May, 2020. However what is expected from the respondents is the proper execution of the said guidelines/directions so that the dead bodies may be disposed of at the earliest and the relatives of those persons who have expired should be informed immediately.

Matter to be listed on 15th June, 2020 and the status report in the above regard be filed by respondents. [Court on its own motion v. GNCT of Delhi, WP(C) 3270 of 2020, decided on 02-06-2020]
