ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Legal Profession is one of the world’s oldest and intellectually stimulating profession. Conventional thinking is that, lawyers are supposed to be found only in courtrooms either as an advocate or a judge as their career option, until the recent transformation and expansion of Legal Profession. Since law practice has seen a sea change in the 21stcentury, the present day tech-savvy Legal Professionals are not inclined towards litigation only, but their practice area can be as Legal Consultant, Chamber Practitioner, In- house Counsel or Panelist or Law Officer for companies in sectors like Banks, Financial Services, IT and ITES industries, Service Sector, Legal Service Outsourcing etc. The profession now has organized Law firms, LLP’s and Companies registered. They are not only taking up civil or criminal litigations, but are specializing in few areas, including super-specialization in Tribunal and Regulators Practice like NCLT, SEBI, DRT, CAT, ITAT etc. Other than Practice, Arbitration, Content Writing, Judiciary, Academics have emerged as prominent part of Legal Profession, which the young generation lawyers have broadened their horizons of work. With this growth, Legal Profession is now transnational by nature with great demand in the globalised legal market, growing beyond USD 125 billion since 2010.

There were days, where it was told that without a “daddy” or “uncle” in Legal Profession, there cannot even be a living wage for lawyers. But the dynamics of legal profession has now interlaced itself with diversified requirement of legal services in the globalised world. Even with such incredible demand in legal services, the careerscape for young and ambitious legal professionals is still not streamlined. The career choice for law students and young legal professionals remains a persistent challenge. Advises and career development may guide young professionals as a path that they would prefer or opt for.

DSLIC is conducting the workshop with an objective and focus to construct a smooth transition from a law student to a professional. The workshop aims to provide a platform and attempts to take a leap in bridging the gap between academics and practice. The workshop has panelists from distinguishing areas in legal profession, depending on their inclination and interest. This workshop is conducted in collaboration with DSNLU Alumni Association.
