The Central Government notified Merchant Shipping (Recruitment and Placement of Seafarers) Amendment Rules, 2022 to amend the Merchant Shipping (Recruitment and Placement of Seafarers) Rules, 2016.
Key highlights:
- In the Merchant Shipping (Recruitment and Placement of Seafarers) Rules, 2016, in rule 9 dealing with Procedure for issue of licence and its renewal, in sub-rule (3), after the word “licence”, the words “within fifteen days” shall be inserted.
“Director, on receipt of the Inspection report from the Inspecting authority may issue the licence withing fifteen days.”
- In the said rules, in rule 19 dealing with ‘Appeal’, in sub-rule (3), for the words “as far as possible within reasonable time”, the words “within a period of sixty days” shall be substituted.
“Any person aggrieved by any order passed under sub-rule (2) may, within a period of thirty days of the date of receipt of such order, appeal to the Director-General, who shall after hearing both the parties, pass an order thereon, within a period of sixty days.”
