On 13-11-2015, the first of its kind Women of India Exhibition- with the theme ‘Women and Organic Products’ was inaugurated by the Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi and the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Radha Mohan Singh at ‘Dilli Haat’, New Delhi. The objective behind this unique initiative is to encourage organic farming and give opportunity to women artisans /entrepreneurs across the country to display and sell their organic products, such as tribal and ethnic foods, pickles and preserves, rice, pulses, spices, vegetables and fruits, fabrics, dyes and dresses, cosmetics, handicrafts and household products etc directly to the people.
In order to support local community’s economy, create jobs, keep farmers thriven and spread awareness about the benefits of organic products, the Ministry invites the women artisans /entrepreneurs across the country, meets their travel and local accommodation costs and allows them to keep all the proceeds recovered from the sale of organic produce. The Ministry has also made entry of visitors free on all days of the Exhibition.
