The NUJS team comprising of Abha Nadkarni (4th year Speaker), Adya Jha (2nd Year speaker), Guncha Dhiman (2nd year Researcher), and Parva Khare (1st Year, Junior Researcher) emerged as the Runner Up in the 8th International Air Law Moot Court Competition held at Valletta in Malta this year from 6th April to 9th April, 2017.
Teams from 20 countries — India, Nepal, the USA, Australia, Indonesia, China, the Netherlands, Canada, Ukraine, New Zealand, Romania, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, Serbia, Poland, the UAE, Singapore, Greece, South Korea and France — competed this year for the coveted trophy which grants the winners a fully-paid scholarship for advanced LLM in Air and Space Law at Leiden University. The competition is a pioneering event founded by the Sarin Memorial Legal Aid Foundation and is jointly organised by the Ministry for Tourism together with the International Institute of Air and Space Law of Leiden University in the Netherlands. It happens to be the only moot court competition in the world on air law and case is expected to raise legal issues concerning countries and people around the globe.
The team from NUJS beat competitors from various countries to reach the ultimate round where they were matched against the National University of Singapore (NUS). In addition to the Runner Up trophy, the team also bagged the Best Memorial awards for both the applicant and respondent side. Earlier, the team had won the national rounds held at Delhi beating NLU Jodhpur and RMLNLU Lucknow.
