National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam hosted its First Convocation Ceremony on 25th of February, 2018. A number of dignitaries including Hon’ble Judges of the Supreme Court and the Gauhati High Court, Judicial Officers, distinguished invitees, Government officers, members of the General Council, Executive Council, Academic Council and other statutory bodies of the University took part in the Ceremony. Hon’ble Mr. Justice J. Chelameshwar, Judge, Supreme Court of India graced the event as the Chief Guest.
The Academic Procession was led by the Registrar of the University, Mr. Miftahuddin Ahmed, ACS. The Procession comprised of the honourable members of the General Council, Executive Council, Academic Council and the distinguished guests. The Chancellor formally declared the opening of the Convocation Ceremony which was followed by the Welcome Address and Presentation of the University Report by the Vice-Chancellor. In his address, the Vice- Chancellor, welcomed everyone and extended his greetings on the first convocation of the National Law University Assam. The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor presented the University Report called the “Journey So Far” of NLUJAA before the august gathering.
Altogether 148 Graduands of B.A.,LL.B. and LL.M were given their degrees. These included 54 from the first batch (2011-2016) of B.A.LL.B., 58 from the second batch (2012-2017) of B.A.LL.B. 6 from the first batch (2012-14) of two year LL.M., 2 from the second batch (2013-15) of two year LL.M., 8 from the third batch (2014-16) of two year LL.M., 12 from first batch (2015-16) of one year LL.M. and 8 from the second batch (2016-17) of one year LL.M.

The Convocation Address was delivered by the Hon’ble Mr. Justice J. Chelameswar, Judge, Supreme Court of India who was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Hon’ble Mr. Justice J. Chelameswar began his speech by expressing his happiness at being associated with this University since its establishment.
Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Judge, Supreme Court of India and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Arvind Bobde, Judge, Supreme Court of India who were the distinguished Guests of Honour also addressed the students’ community and the graduating students. The Convocation was declared closed by the Hon’ble Chancellor.
