Supreme Court: A Bench of CJ Dipak Misra, A.M. Khanwilkar and Dr D.Y. Chandrachud passed an order concerning interim relief in the matter of a petition filed against the arrest of five activists.
The Supreme Court asked the Centre and the State of Maharashtra to file a response by September 5, 2018 in the writ petition that challenged the arrest of five activists, namely, Sudha Bharadwaj, Gautam Navlakha, Arun Ferreira, Vernon Gonsalves and P. Varavara Rao in relation to their alleged Maoist link in recent Bhima-Koregaon violence. The Bench had ordered that the activists, named above, who were arrested yesterday will be kept under house arrest at their own homes.
The petition which is filed by Romila Thapar among others is listed for September 6, 2018. The petitioners are being represented by Senior Advocates including Dr Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Indira Jaising, Dushyant Dave, Huzefa Ahmadi, Rajeev Dhavan, etc. [Romila Thapar v.
