The U.S. Consulate General Chennai in collaboration with Loyola College, Chennai is organizing a debate program for students across South India titled “A Comparative U.S. – India Constitutional Law Debate.” Engaging students across South India, this project will showcase the Constitutions of the United States and India, underscoring democratic guarantees of a citizen’s right to life, freedom, property and speech in our societies. The debate will deliberate on contemporary issues in the context of the U.S. and Indian constitutional laws.
In the run up to the final debate in September 2019, they are conducting four regional debates in the following cities, Bengaluru (Karnataka), Kochi (Kerala), Trichy (South Tamil Nadu), and Chennai (Chennai and Puducherry) to maximize the geographic reach of the selection process.

The top four winners (16 participants) from the above four centers will participate in the final debate competition to be held in Chennai. A training/workshop by the American and Indian Constitution specialists form part of workshop including debating techniques, a day prior to the final debate. The final debate is tentatively scheduled for September 13, 2019 and will be followed by a grand award ceremony and a networking reception.
The National University of Advanced Legal Studies is entrusted to conduct the preliminary rounds in Kerala which is scheduled on 26th July 2019, Friday. 96 slots are available and it will be filled ‘first come first serve’ basis.
