As reported by media, Union Cabinet has cleared the bill to amend the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.

It decided to expand the definition of care-givers under the said along with a few more definitions.

The above-said change would include sons-in-law and daughters-in-law also responsible for looking after family members along with their biological children. It provides for the registration of senior citizens care homes and home-care service agencies and minimum standards for senior citizen care homes.

Care-Givers who fail to comply can face a jail term of up to 6 months instead of the current 3 months.

It has also been reported that the bill would also include adoptive children as well as stepsons and daughters.
