The relevance of International Moot as a strategy to solve complex International Criminal Disputes is irrefutable. Its use and profile have seen a meteoric rise across the globe in the last few decades. Moot Court Competition is an emerging field of law and its robust enforcement becomes a prerequisite for ensuring that the environment remains competitive among the Law students. With the aim of fostering quality research, analysis, writing and oratory skills. Amity Law School, Noida is hosting the India National Qualifying Rounds of the most prestigious Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition for the year 2020 from 30th of January to 2nd February.
The Compromis is the springboard for the Jessup Competition. Written by leading scholars of International Law, the compromis for Jessup, 2020 addresses multi-fora international litigation, the accountability of heads of State for war crimes, killer robots, and a wall.
Professor Richard R. Baxter at Harvard Law School was the pioneer of The Jessup Competition, who worked with Professor Stephen M. Schwebel to create a courtroom simulation experience grounded in international law.
The first ever round of the Jessup competition was held at Harvard University on 8th May, 1960. It was then known as the “International Law Moot”. The first Jessup problem was titled the “Cuban Agrarian Reform Case” and the path created then has been followed on since then with greater ardor and determination every year.
With the success of the First Jessup Competition, the need for an organization to cater to the needs of the students interested in International Law came to light.This led to the idea and establishment of the Association of the Student International Law Societies by students from a number of campuses in the year 1962. In 1987 the Association was reconstituted as the International Law Students Association (ILSA) on account of its stupendous growth over the years. The furtherance of this endeavor was meant to be a greater success and thus, in May 1994, ILSA incorporated itself as a non-profit organization in the District of Columbia.
Often referred to as the grand slam of moot competitions, the Philip C. Jessup Competition is the world’s oldest and largest moot court competition that spans the globe with over 700 law schools across 100 countries.
This competition is an extra-ordinary chance for the students in the legal arena to present their skills and talent. The participating teams will be presenting their oral and written arguments on behalf of the applicant as well as the respondent positions in a case between fictional countries before the International Court of Justice.This Competition will adjudge the best team of the India Qualifying Rounds for the same on the basis of legal arguments, both on account of the oratory skills and content, presentation, and research skills.
Final teams from the Indian National Qualifying Rounds will be selected to represent India and compete in Washington, DC. India has won the Jessup World Cup in 1999 and 2013. We hope that this years event marks higher benchmarks and will be an unparalleled experience filled with motivation and knowledge

Day 1 (30th January, 2020)
Teams arrived and registration was done duly by the end of the day.
Day 2 (31st January, 2020)
0830 hours : Orientation of all the participating teams has begun for the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition 2020 – Indian Rounds at Amity Law School,Noida.
0915 hours : Orientation for Judges has begun for round 01 of the competition. Judges for the preliminary rounds have arrived and the orientation process has begun. The orientation will conclude in 15 minutes.
0930 hours : Preliminary round 01 commences with 14 matches.
1135 hours : All 14 matches of preliminary round 01 have concluded.
1200 hours : Judges Orientation for preliminary round 02 has begun.
1220 hours : Preliminary round 02 with 14 matches has begun.
1400 hours : All 14 matches of the second preliminary round have concluded.
1430 hours : The teams have proceeded to their lunch break.
1520 hours : The judges orientation for the third preliminary round has begun.
1530 hours : Third preliminary round with 14 matches has commenced.
1730 hours : All 14 matches of the third preliminary round have concluded.
1745 hours : The esteemed judges were felicitated by the hosts by presenting a token of gratitude for offering their guidance, support and experience to the competition.
1750 hours : The judges graciously gave feedback on their experience attending this prestigious competition, showing their appreciation for the level of competition as well as the organisation and hospitality shown by the hosts. We at Amity Law School are always looking for enhancement of experience.
1800 hours : The second day has now concluded, the remaining preliminary rounds, the 4th and 5th rounds, are scheduled for tomorrow. At the end of the session the judges were pleased with the level of competition displayed by the teams and were all praises for the organisational skills displayed by the institution. Mr. Kanishk Rana, who came across a mooter from his college days aptly said,” It’s always great to judge young, aspiring lawyers. It is more fun when you judge it with people you have competed with in your college days.”
Day 3 (1st February,2020)
0830 hours : The third day begins with the judges for todays rounds arriving for the day as well as breakfast being served. We are looking forward for another exciting day.
0900 hours : Judges orientation for the fourth preliminary round of the competition has been initiated. For Amity Law School it is an honour to host such distinguished Judges who have taken out time from their busy schedules, on a Saturday.
0930 hours : The fourth preliminary round with 15 matches are now underway.
1100 hours : All 15 matches of the fourth preliminary round have been completed.
1145 hours : The Judges enjoy a break and refreshments after the fourth preliminary round has ended.The Judges orientation for the concluding preliminary round of the competition is now also underway.
1200 hours : After another successful round the Judges are being felicitated by the hosts for their expert judgement, patience and understanding of this prestigious competition.
1220 hours : The fifth and final preliminary round for this event has commenced. From here, we will go from 32 to 8 teams, with 4 spots available for the international rounds.
1400 hours: The final preliminary round for this year’s India Rounds is now over, we wish luck to all teams participating.
1430 hours : The esteemed judges and the participating teams are now breaking for lunch. Lunch shall be followed by Draw of Lots for Quarter-final rounds.
1500 hours : “It’s hard to wait around for something you know might never happen’; but it’s even harder to give up when you think it’s everything you want.”, Is a quote that would resonate with the participating teams as they wait with baited breath for the results of the preliminary rounds.
