About the Colloquium
The Constitution of India has envisaged that citizens shall abide by and discharge certain Fundamental Duties as provided in Chapter IV-A. These duties were incorporated into the Constitution by the 42nd (Amendment) Act, 1976 under Article 51A. Originally ten in number, the fundamental duties were increased to eleven by the 86th (Amendment) Act, 2002. Our legal system is made up of both Rights and Duties, which are interlinked. We find every facet of diversity in our country, be it geographical, linguistic, social, cultural, or religious; and such diversity or heterogeneity is often described as a special and remarkable feature of our country. The emphasis is on the obligation of every citizen to promote patriotism and uphold the unity of India, thereby making our Constitution unique.
Article 51(e) mandates to promote harmony and spirit of common brotherhood among citizens of India transcending religious, linguistic, and regional or sectional diversities and to renounce practices derogatory to the dignity of women. The ongoing challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic have reflected the inherent solidarity in our society. The warriors who stand at the forefront have shown us how, even in times of a crisis, we can co-exist harmoniously by taking care of the needs of individuals and respecting their sentiments. The declaration of a pandemic is a call for performing our duty and responsibility as the nation and people unite. Accordingly, the colloquium is dedicated to celebrating the 70thanniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of India. The colloquium is supposed to be a platform for the audience to get acquainted with ideas and views of experts. The ultimate aim of the event is to ensure an exchange of experiences and knowledge of eminent experts in the area.
