The State Government of Meghalaya has released an order dated December 13, 2021, enlisting certain minor veterinary services which can be provided by local unemployed youth, provided they have completed accredited training in the vocational training institute of the department to increase the penetration of veterinary services in the rural areas for the benefit of livestock rearer. The measure has been taken since there is less manpower available in the department.

Minor veterinary services have been earlier notified by government, as services namely treatment, vaccination and deworming of livestock etc.

Further, the state government has notified the following services to be rendered by the non-graduate para veterinarian under supervision of a registered veterinary practitioner, as released by the order dated, December 13, 2021, namely:

  • Preventive health care and disease reporting i.e., diagnosis of common diseases and their treatment.
  • Veterinary first aid and pregnancy diagnosis
  • Prevention of external and internal parasite
  • Non-surgical castration
  • All type of vaccination and prophylactic treatment
  • Compounding and dispensing medicine.
  • Assist all registered Veterinary practitioner in performing major operation
  • Artificial insemination and follow up action.
  • Collection and dispatch of sample blood, serum, urine, faeces, semen, milk and other specimens for laboratory diagnosis.
  • Any other duty assigned by registered veterinary practitioner.
