Gujarat National Law University in collaboration with Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, is organizing an International Essay Writing Competition on the theme “Contemporary Challenges in Disarmament and non-Proliferation”. The winner shall receive a cash prize of INR 10,000 as well as a chance to attend an international event in Europe coordinated by the SIPRI or EUNPDC with travel, accommodation and visa cost included. The second and third runners up shall also receive a cash prize of INR 7500 and INR 5000 respectively.
Submissions are welcome from all students of law/policy background in India within the age group of 17-25 years. Authors are invited to describe challenges from a legal standpoint and propose potential policy recommendations on a selected topic. Analysis from local, national and regional perspectives on selected topics are encouraged. Participants are supposed to note that co-authorship is prohibited and due to a zero-tolerance policy for plagiarism, all sources must be cited. Word limit for the same is 2500 words, exclusive of footnotes. Suggested topics include:

The future of non-proliferation and/or disarmament through hard law and/or soft law.

Risks posed by rapidly advancing technologies (cyber space, outer space, artificial intelligence) in international humanitarian law.

Prioritizing gender in arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation.
