About MNLU
Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai, established under the Maharashtra National Law University Act 2014 on 20th March 2014, is one of the premier National Law Universities in India. The Act envisaged establishing National Law University in Maharashtra to impart advanced legal education and promote society-oriented research in legal studies for the advancement of the societal life of the people in the country.
About the centers
The Centre for Law and Management at MNLU Mumbai works towards promoting entrepreneurship and social Innovation. The Centre is a knowledge hub for research and teaching interdisciplinary courses on law and strategy, management, ethics and organizational sciences.
The Centre for Studies in international Trade and Investment Laws at DNLU Jabalpur aims to bring together academics, and legal practitioners with the aim of empowering stakeholders to avail the benefits of research in international trade law and international investment law.
The Centre for Research in Air & Space Law at MNLU Mumbai aims to become an ideal forum for the exchange of ideas and building research opportunities in the international law applicable to implementing international air and space law.
The Centre for Maritime Law and Research established with the support of the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India at MNLU Mumbai conducts training programs, conferences, workshops and seminars in the field of maritime law & insurance.
About the course
Understanding of global economic relations requires specialized and advanced learning of trade and investment institutions, rules and principles. This programme, seeks to provide a platform for richer theoretical, contextual, practical and multidisciplinary inquiry to understand institutional frameworks, global legal processes, policy dynamics, and contemporary challenges in the area of international trade and investment. Students will engage in an intensive study of global, regional and local economic regimes concerned with investment, their interactions and contemporary relevance through carefully selected elective courses.
Objective of the course
At the end of this course, you’ll be able to:

Learn the objectives of international investment law and the specific rights of international investment agreements;

About the teachers of the course
Prof. (Dr.) Prabhash Ranjan: Professor and Vice Dean (Continuing Education) & Director, Centre for International Investment and Trade Laws, Jindal Global Law School, O P Jindal Global University
He was member of the team that drafted the 260th report of the Law Commission of India on the 2015 draft model Indian bilateral investment treaty. Recently he was invited by the Parliamentary committee on External Affairs to depose as an expert witness on ‘India and bilateral investment treaties’. He has authored a book, ‘India and Bilateral Investment Treaties: Refusal, Acceptance, Backlash’ published by Oxford University Press in 2019.
Prof. (Dr.) Sheela Rai: Professor of Law, National Law University Odisha
Dr. Rai has done her LL.B. from DDU Gorakhpur University, LL.M. and Ph.D. from National Law School of India University, Bangalore. She started her career as Research Assistant (2002) and thereafter as lecturer in NUJS, West Bengal in 2004. She joined HNLU, Raipur as Associate Professor in 2008. She is working in NLUO since 2013. She has also worked in CUTS International and Amity University Jaipur. Dr. Rai has also published articles in Indian and international journals.
Prof. (Dr.) Wasiq Abass Dar: Associate Professor of Legal Practice, Jindal Global Law School, O P Jindal Global University
Prof. (Dr.) Wasiq Abass Dar’s doctoral research focused on issues related to International Commercial Arbitration. In 2017, as a Global Teaching Fellow of Central European University, he introduced courses on International Commercial Arbitration and International Investment Law and Investment Arbitration at the University of Yangon, Myanmar. The research areas that interest him include International Commercial Arbitration, International Investment Law, Investment Arbitration, Commercial Mediation, Private International Law, and certain areas of Public International Law.
Prof. (Dr.) Harisankar K Sathyapalan: Assistant Professor, School of Legal Studies, Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT)
Prof. (Dr.) Harishankar has been a visiting research scholar at the International Institute for the Unification of International Private Law (UNIDROIT) Rome, and a visiting researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law, Hamburg. He is also a recipient of the prestigious Hague Academy of International Law scholarship. He has presented his works at various places including the Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, Osgoode Hall Law School (York University) in Toronto, and iCourts (University of Copenhagen), etc. His works have been published by internationally reputed publishers like Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, Sweet & Maxwell, SAGE and Wolters Kluwer.
Prof. (Dr.) Rosmy Joan: Assistant Professor of Law and Faculty Coordinator of the Centre for Studies in Global Trade Engagements and Negotiations, National Law University, Jodhpur
Dr. Rosmy Joan specializes in International Economic Laws and Public Law. She holds her doctoral degree in International Investment Law and Policy from the National Law University, Jodhpur. She was selected as a Host Faculty under the Fulbright-Nehru Specialist Programme and hosted Prof. Jacqueline Lang Weaver, A. A. White Professor of Law at the University of Houston Law Center, Houston, Texas in February 2020. Recently Dr. Joan has been awarded the prestigious Shastri Indo-Canadian Fellowship for Academicians in the area of Energy Law.
Prof. Utkarsh K. Mishra: Assistant Professor of Law and Director, Centre for International Trade and Investment Laws, DNLU, Jabalpur
Utkarsh K. Mishra has worked as Assistant Registrar (Research) at the Centre for Research and Planning (Secretariat of Chief Justice of India), Supreme Court of India, on deputation from DNLU in the session 2021-22. During his term at the Supreme Court of India, he executed many research projects and assignments. He is a recipient of Nani A. Palkhivala Memorial Gold Medal and Milon Kumar Banerjee Gold Medal for academic excellence in the postgraduate studies. He has many research publications, articles, and book chapters to his credit. His areas of Research and Teaching interests include International Trade Law, International Investment Laws, Public Policy, Comparative Judicial Reforms, and Private International Law, etc.
