Wrt. “Can moviegoers take their own food and drinks to cinema halls?’ The argument against this motion is that it is akin to taking own food in a restaurant thereby leading to loss of business and negating the very purpose of the establishment’s core business. A movie theatre’s core business is not serving food and drinks but screening movies. So carrying own food and drinks to the hall does not in any way impact the core business of the hall. The exorbitant rates charged by the food stalls are a significant burden on the moviegoer and this might be one of the main reasons why our cinema industry and movie halls are showing such low takers in recent times. What can be done instead is to permit own eatables in the theatre and charge a small ‘cleaning fee’ which can be included in the ticket price if not being done already. That gives a good choice to the moviegoer. He can opt to purchase from the food courts or get his own food.
