satyendar jain news

Supreme Court: In a Special Leave Petition seeking interim relief for the former leader of Aam Aadmi Party's Satyendar Jain, the Vacation Bench of Supreme Court consisting of J.K. Maheshwari and P.S. Narasimha, JJ. granted interim bail for 6 weeks on medical grounds. The Court allowed Jain to get treated in a hospital of his choice during the given period of time.

The basis of bail application was the weight loss and deteriorating medical condition of AAP Leader Satyendar Jain, whose medical reports of G.B. Pant Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research were produced before the Court. The same was argued against by ED pressing upon independent medical examination before All India Institute of Medical Sciences (‘AIIMS').

The Court expressed that “there is no reason to disbelieve the report of G.B. Pant Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research” and supported the citizen's right to treatment of his choice, at his own expenses in a private hospital. Thus, the Court granted interim bail to Satyendar Jain for 6 weeks on medical grounds. While granting interim bail to Satyendar Jain, the Court subjected the same to the conditions imposed by the Trial Court in the instant matter. It further constrained Jain from going to the media personnel to make any statement on any issue related to the case or attempting to influence the witnesses.

The Court listed this matter for the next hearing on 10-7-2023.

AAP leader Satyendar Jain has been in custody since May 2022. Earlier, the Delhi High Court refused bail to AAP's Satyender Jain in money laundering case.
